İlhan Kural
Born in Rome, in 1947. After graduating from TED Ankara College in 1964, entered METU Department of Architecture with the highest entrance score. Graduated in 1968 with a B.Arch.Degree and the highest CGPA. In 1970 received his M.Arch. Degree from the same Department, where he started working as a teaching assistant. In 1971, went to USA, to the University of California at Berkeley as an AID Scholarship Recipient. Worked with Professor Christopher Alexander as his Master’s Thesis Advisor, on the use of the Pattern Language Approach in Architectural Education. After graduation, returned to METU in 1973 where he worked full-time until 2003 as an instructor and until 2012 part-time. Mr. Kural has designed numerous projects, including residences, housing, resort villages, hotels, university buildings, offices, hospitals, cultural buildings and restoration projects. He has received various awards and held jury memberships. He has lectured and published articles. Many articles have also been published about him, regarding his works. During 1998-2000, he has worked in the Board of Directors of TSMD (Association of Turkish Architects in Private Practice) as the General Secretary and as the Head of the Board of Directors during 2007-2009. He has also been a member of the State Planning Organization 8th. 5 Year Plan Specialized Committee in 2000. Mr. Kural was the recipient of the 5th. National Architecture Grand Award in Building Category for the Bilkent University Library, with Erkut Şahinbaş in 1996. He was also a nominee in the 5th. National Architecture Grand Award in Building Category for the Bilkent University Music Faculty in 1996 and a nominee for the 8th. National Architecture Grand Award in Building Category for the Antalya Archery Club in 2002.
Nerkis Kural, PhD.
Born in Ankara, in 1945. After graduating from İzmir American College for Girls in 1964,entered METU Department of Architecture. After graduating in 1968 with a B.Arch. Degree, completed her Master’s Degree in the Department of City and Regional Planning in 1974. During 1968-1970, worked with Şevki Vanlı on the planning of ORAN New Town. In 1971, worked on the planning of San Rafael in the office of Duncan and Jones in Berkeley, California. After returning to Turkey in 1973, she completed numerous town plans in Kural Architectural and Planning Office, which she co-founded with İlhan Kural. Ms. Kural has taught at the METU Department of Architecture for 10 years and more than 17 years at the Bilkent University Department of Interior Design. In 2009, she completed her doctoral studies at the Department of Architecture at METU and received her PhD. Ms. Kural has numerous town plans, international and national planning reports, site planning projects for university campuses and published articles. She is also the recipient of the World Bank “Turkish Creative Ideas for Development Competition Award” for her “Child Attraction Center Project”. Currently Ms. Kural is teaching part-time at the Department of Architecture, METU.
Ali Kural
Born in Ankara in 1974. After graduating from TED Ankara College in 1991, he received his B.Arch. degree from the Department of Architecture, METU in 1995 with the highest GPA. In 1996, he received a Fulbright Scholarship to study at Harvard University, where he received his Master of Architecture in Urban Design (MAUD) in 1996. He worked in the United States and in Turkey in various offices as an architect and as a consultant on urban design. Upon his return to Turkey, he completed a number of projects and won awards in competitions he entered. In 1996, he was elected a nominee for the 5th. National Architecture Grand Award in Building Category with his project for the Alaçatı Beach Night Club. Since 2006, Ali Kural has been working as a partner in Kural Architects Architecture, City Planning, Urban Design and Landscaping Co. Ltd. in his Istanbul office.
Veli Kural
Born in Ankara in 1979. After graduating from TED Ankara College in 1996, he received his Bachelor of Architecture degree in 2000 from METU, Department of Architecture. He participated in Boston Design Collaborative team for the winning entry of “American University in Cairo” invited design competition, as an intern architect. He worked in Kural Architecture Office between 2000-2001 and FDAA Architects, Inc. - Boston, MA between 2001-2005 where he participated in design and construction phases of various local commercial and residential projects as a project architect. Veli Kural has been working as a partner in Kural Architects Architecture, City Planning, Urban Design and Landscaping Co. Ltd. since 2006.
